If you don’t currently have a Heartland credit card, opening a new one to transfer a balance to does create a “hard inquiry” on your credit report, which might lower your score at least for a little while. However, if the balance transfer is lowering the amount of interest you’re paying each month and allowing you to pay more of your balance that is a good way to improve your credit.
